Flowering plant evolution is key for the establishment of modern terrestrial life. Yet, the time of origin of this group of organisms remains unresolved. In this paper, a large flowering plant fossil data base is compiled and 137 fossils are used to calibrate a phylogenetic tree showing relationships and time of origin of 87% of flowering plant families.
